CHARACTER
Character Name: Gilbert Beilschmidt/Kingdom of Prussia
Character Age: Over 800; appears to be around 20-25
Canon: Axis Powers Hetalia
Canon Point: modern day
History: Prussia - Hetalia Wiki, Prussia - Wikipedia
Personality: Prussia is big, loud, bold, aggressive, and has an ego the size of his former kingdom at its peak. Well, maybe not so much nowadays, as he hasn’t been a formal nation in 70 years now. He spends his days mostly hanging out in Germany’s basement, not doing much of anything besides playing video games, watching movies, writing in his diaries and feeling sorry for himself. Not that he’d ever admit to that last part. His huge ego has never let him admit to his loneliness, which has followed him his whole existence. He’s never felt like a real unified nation like his peers, more just like a collection of connected territories, and now any chance of feeling collected are long gone. He will protest this, though. He is TOTALLY not lonely and not at ALL bitter of couples and friends, especially not over Hungary and Austria. Nope.
Prussia started life as the Teutonic Order, in the middle ages, which shaped him from the start as a militant, aggressive entity, especially when you factor how the Knights were allowed to do whatever they wanted, and also participating in the Crusades. For awhile in his history, Prussia was a bit more reserved, after losing a big battle to Poland and Lithuania. It wasn’t until much later that he gained enough power to stand on his own as a nation, overtaking the region and running roughshod over everyone. It’s not a great way to gain friends, and a lot of the European nations still dislike him to this day as a result. While he has no leverage in affairs today, he can hide behind the strength of his younger brother, Germany, when problems arise. Especially from Russia, who is always ready to welcome him back to his side and Prussia’s East German days if he wanted. Prussia can’t even stand to get near Russia, no matter how nostalgic he may get for the past some days, though he seems less afraid of him than some other nations.
While it seems like there isn’t much positive about him, Prussia does have good points about him. He’s very loyal to his friends and past leaders, especially with King Frederich II (who he affectionately called Old Fritz). While they’re not much alike and they often don’t get along, he’s fairly close with Germany. Prussia is a very methodical and hard worker, so long as it’s regarding something he wants to do. If he’s encouraged enough or manages to focus, he can blaze through tasks or pick up on a new skill easily. He even claims to be naturally talented at everything. He keeps strict attention to his diaries that he has been logging every day of his life without fail. After all, record of his amazingly cool deeds has to be kept for posterity. He’s a music lover, and quite adept at playing the flute. Austria admits to his great skill at it, and Germany tries to encourage him into music more instead of just lazing around playing video games. Prussia is also the reason Germany exists as he does, as he got the former territories shape up, work together and unify through his leadership. While he’s not the brightest bulb around, Prussia is excellent with military tactics and combat training, and does well in teaching his younger brother what he knows.
Prussia even seems to love cute things, and is often seen accompanied by adorable birds, or buying stuffed animals. He has a hard time resisting patting cute things, and will do so to people’s heads as his own odd sign of affection and praise. When it comes to his fellow nations, he has a definite weakness for Italy, who he thinks is cute and seeks the praise of often. Italy is oblivious to Prussia’s feelings, though.
Nowadays Prussia struggles for relevancy and acknowledgement more than ever. He’s barely clinging to existence representing the eastern region of Germany. After getting bitten on the hand by a dog, the wound still isn’t healed after a week, when something superfluous like that would be healed quickly or even instantly by most nations. Prussia tries to ignore this, though, and continues to fritter away his remaining years by imposing on his younger brother and not doing much of significance at all.
Inventory: A small hand-written journal book (about 1/4 full) and a pen; a locket containing a picture of Old Fritz.
Abilities: Prussia might not be a nation anymore, but he’s lucky enough that he still maintains his strength of one. All nations have the superhuman trait representative of their actual nation’s strength, and Prussia was once one of the strongest. However, most nations heal from any damage quickly, but because he’s technically no longer a nation, Prussia doesn’t have that luxury. In fact, injuries he receives takes longer than normal to heal on their own. Nations are slow to age, maturing along as their actual nation does, and live for hundreds of years along with them. Since Prussia doesn’t actually exist anymore, it’s remarkable that he’s still alive.
Flaws: Prussia is egotistical, arrogant, often lazy, ill-mannered, and lacks basic common sense. He’s a fighter through and through, and that’s usually the only thing he knows how to do many situations. He has a hard time with personal restraint when it comes to getting what he wants. He’s always been very lonely, despite his claims. Even when he has his brother and friends in his life, he’s still often bitter and sad when seeing happy couples and friends together.
